Celebrating Christmas on Hatteras and Ocracoke….WITH SLIDE SHOWOutfitting homes and businesses with Christmas decorations was a challenge this year. We had rain and wind and tidal flooding and more rain and wind and tidal flooding. Then there were a couple days of dense fog. We need photos of your Christmas decorationsSince we started publishing in September, 2007, The Island Free Press has published a slide show each Christmas of island homes and businesses decked out for the holidays. In 2007, we had lots and lots of photos. Last year, we didn’t get as many, but still had a good slide show of the holiday spirit from the tri-villages to Ocracoke and beyond – with some really fun tales about the story behind some of the decorations. There was Fat Frosty who was spirited from house to house on Hatteras in the dark of the night. Then there was the Santa that was rescued from an Ocracoke dumpster by a couple from Statesville, N.C. Last Christmas, the refurbished Santa was part of the yard display at the Wasson home. We hope that this year you will again send us pictures of the holiday décor and lights at your home, your office, your business, your church, your classroom. Photos of Christmas trees are welcome! Send them to editor@islandfreepress.org and we will publish them Christmas Week. Be sure to send along your name and where the photo was taken. And if you missed last year’s story and photos or want to take another look to get you in the spirit, click on the link below: http://islandfreepress.org/2008Archives/12.22.2008-ChristmasOnHatterasAndOcracokeAndElsewhere.html |
