25th Annual Hatteras Surf Fishing Tournament

By IRENE NOLAN

The fish were scarce, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of anglers at the 25th annual Hatteras Village Surf Fishing Tournament Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8.

“Everyone had a great time, and the weather was terrific,” said Katie Oden, one of the organizers of the event.

Tournament fishing ended on Saturday, just before Tropical Storm Gabrielle threatened the Outer Banks.

Oden said that 87 teams of six anglers each fished in this year’s tournament.

The winning team was the Crooked Hooks of Kitty Hawk with 58 points and a total of 21 fish.

The Delaware Mobile Fishermen’s team was second with 53 point and 21 fish, and third place went to One More Cast, an Avon team, with 50 points and 15 fish.

The first-place women’s team was Fish Tales of Kill Devil Hills with 15 points and seven fish.
