A
dead body in a bag was located this evening in Frisco by a person who
was in the Village of Salt Creek, a secluded subdivision on the soundside
of Hatteras Island between Frisco Rod and Gun and the Quarterdeck
restaurant.
Dare County Commissioner Allen Burrus confirmed that he had a call from
the Dare County Sheriff’s Office about the body, which law enforcement
officers believe may be that of Lynne Jackenheimer, 33, who disappeared
sometime around July 4 while she and her former boyfriend, Nate
Summerfield, were vacationing in Salvo with her two children.
The body was found in a marshy area, and apparently was dumped there and did not float there from another location.
Dare County law enforcement organizations have been searching
intensively all week for any sign of Jackenheimer after they were
contacted on Monday by police in her hometown of Ashland, Ohio.
Most of the search efforts have been concentrated in Salvo and other areas in the tri-villages.
Jackenheimer’s family and friends have been on Hatteras this week to assist with the search.
The boyfriend, Nate Summerfield, dropped Jackenheimer’s children with
their grandparents in Ohio last weekend, and he, too, is missing. He
may have confessed to a family member that he killed Jackenheimer.
The Dare County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached Saturday evening for more information.
