Clyde Wood

FRISCO -- On Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, our beloved Mother peacefully completed her life’s journey.  We were by her side as she transitioned from this world to the next.

The end of her journey began right before Christmas as she began to refuse to eat.  She was placed under hospice care in January, and the plan was to keep her safe and comfortable.  As was typical Clyde, she fought to do it “her way” right up to the end.  She had a long and productive life, working at several different jobs, the last one being a sales clerk at the Williamston Sears catalog store.  Her retirement years were spent traveling the world and working in her yard.  She called herself a “professional rider” and a “yard person.”  Up into her mid-90,s you could find her out raking her yard, as this was her “exercise.”  It must have worked as she lived 98 years.

Leaving to cherish her memory are two children, Eugene Wood and Iris Wood Long; six grandchildren, George Roberson, Jr., Jacquelyn Anderson, Donna Modellas, Eric Mintz, Daphne Mintz, and Claire Culberson; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by special friend and care-giver, Judy Parker, and three loving nieces, Suzanne Cox, Carolyn Keeney and Maggie Poling.  She was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Rae Wood Jones and husband, T.P. Wood.

She loved going to the mountains, especially Mt. Mitchell, to see the changing colors of the leaves.  As per her wishes, there will be no funeral.  Her body will be cremated and her ashes scattered on Mt. Mitchell in the fall.  We are at peace knowing she is finally happy and in a better place.  As she would say, “Aaanny Way….” We love you. Rest in peace, dear mother.  Memorials may be made to Dare Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954.
