Ferries
returning to normal runs; emergency ferry discontinued
The North
Carolina
Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division routes serving Ocracoke
Island will return to normal fall schedules beginning Tuesday, Oct. 11,
following the reopening of Highway 12 on Hatteras Island.
However, two departures on the Pamlico Sound routes will be missed
Wed., Oct. 12, due to a scheduled U.S. Coast Guard inspection.
The emergency ferry route set up post-Irene between Stumpy Point and
Rodanthe will be officially shut down today when Highway officially
reopens.
Also, the temporary toll waivers provided for Ocracoke and Hatteras
Island residents will end on Oct. 11.
The Cedar Island-Ocracoke and Swan Quarter-Ocracoke routes will return
to normal schedules except for Wednesday when the 7 a.m. departure from
Swan Quarter to Ocracoke and the 10 a.m. departure from Ocracoke to
Cedar Island will be missed, due to a scheduled USCG inspection of the
Motor Vessel Pamlico. These departures have been blocked out for
reservations.
The Cedar Island-Ocracoke Fall schedule is:
- Departing
Cedar
Island at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.; and
- Departing
Ocracoke at
7:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
The Swan Quarter-Ocracoke Fall schedule is:
- Departing
Swan
Quarter at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m., and
- Departing
Ocracoke at
6:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The Hatteras-Ocracoke schedule is:
- Departing
Hatteras
and Ocracoke at 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., and then departing every half
hour through 7 p.m. when departures return to hourly through midnight.
These schedules will remain in place until Nov. 1, 2011, when the
winter schedule begins. These schedules are available online at www.ncferry.org.
