UPDATE:
Emergency Stumpy Point-Rodanthe ferry resumes operations
The
N.C. Department of Transportation Ferry Division’s emergency route at
Stumpy Point that was temporarily suspended today because of low tide
resumed operations with a 5 p.m. departure from Stumpy Point and a 6
p.m. departure from Rodanthe.
The Ferry Division has been monitoring water levels all day and several
hours ago sent a ferry out to check the channel. The regular 16
departure schedule will resume. However, everyone is reminded that
because the channel is so narrow and shallow, there could still be
problems as long as the winds continue blowing from the northeast.
The emergency ferry route schedule is:
- Departing
Stumpy Point at 12:30 a.m., 2 a.m., 3:30 a.m., 5 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 8
a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 6:30
p.m., 8 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.; and
- Departing
Rodanthe at midnight, 1:30 a.m., 3 a.m., 4:30 a.m., 6 a.m., 7:30 a.m.,
9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 7:30
p.m., 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m..
The emergency ferries are available only to residents of Hatteras,
non-resident property owners, insurance adjusters, critical personnel,
vendors, and supply trucks. Visitors are not allowed on the
ferries.
