Giving thanks – a photo essay by Don Bowers

It’s the season for giving thanks, and we have much to be thankful for on Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.

Island Free Press photographer combed his files to come up with these images that sum up life on the islands and in our village communities -- the many things we celebrate this Thanksgiving.

Bowers’ photographs remind us of the many things for which we are thankful.

We give thanks for the sights on the islands, the people who live and work here, the celebrations in our everyday lives, the watersports and beaches we love, fishing and beach access, and the animals that we share our environment with.

Included in his images are large celebrations – Day and the Docks and graduation – and the small moments that we celebrate, such as rainbows and the afternoon light.

You can see more of Bowers’ work at Indian Town Gallery in Frisco.

Enjoy. And a very happy Thanksgiving to all of you, our readers.
