Seashore has volunteer opportunities for Hatteras teens
The
National Park Service invites all Hatteras Island uprising seventh
through 12th graders to join in some exciting summer volunteer
experiences.
- Assist in staffing the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on the monthly full moon and weekly moonlight climbs
- Help a ranger teach visitors about the creatures of the sound and sea at a soundside seining program
- Join other teens in field projects that will aid in protecting the seashore.
“This is a great opportunity to get involved with education and
protection of the unique natural and cultural resources on this very
special and dynamic island where you live,” park officials said
in a press release.
There will be a kick-off youth group meeting at the Cape Hatteras
Lighthouse Double Keeper’s Quarters on Thursday, July 2 at 7:30
p.m. Call 252-995-4474, ext.25, to let the park know that you
plan to attend the meeting and are interested in volunteering.
You must bring a parent with you to the meeting. If you have
questions, call 252-995-4474, ext. 24, or e-mail park ranger Laura
Sturtz at Laura_Sturtz@nps.gov.
