Dare County details where to view negotiated rulemaking meetings

Dare County will videotape the two-day negotiated rulemaking committee meeting on Friday and Saturday, Nov.14 and 15, at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills.

The videotape will be broadcast on Charter Cable’s Government Access Channel 20 (MAGIC) in Dare County at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day except Wednesday from Monday, Nov. 17, through Sunday, Nov. 23. The broadcast will be shown in four segments because of the length of the meetings. Visit the Dare County Web site at www.darenc.com and click on the public information files menu to see a schedule for Channel 20.

The committee has been tasked with assisting the National Park Service (NPS) in developing an off-road vehicle (ORV) management plan for the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Because of the extensive interest shown by people outside the viewing area and the fact that not all residents receive their television broadcast signals through cable service, the video will be available for viewing by computer at the Dare County Web site, www.darenc.com , beginning Wednesday, Nov. 19.

A DVD will also be made available to all Dare County libraries.

Earlier this month, seashore Superintendent Mike Murray ruled on a request by Dare County that meetings be broadcast so that all interested people would have full and unfiltered knowledge of the discussions.

According to Murray, the videotaping will be authorized under the terms and conditions of a special use permit with the purpose of the videotaping to provide documentation of the meeting to share with the public.

According to a news release issued by NPS, “The National Park Service believes that videotaping will: enhance the transparency and openness of the process, provide the public as a whole an opportunity to observe the proceedings, provide a means for educating interested parties about the proceedings and issues, and provide an opportunity for the committee to show its diligence, civility, and hard work on the important issues before the committee.
