51 boats split about $150,000 in prize money in Hatteras Offshore Open

Anglers on 51 boats fished for $149,685 in prize money in the 14th
annual Hatteras Village Offshore Open billfish tournament, which began
on May 14 and ended May 17.
The top money prize went to the Brothers Pride, owned by the Bonney
brothers of Hatteras Harbor Marina and Village Marina. On the
second day of the tournament, Albert Bonney decked a 454.5-pound blue
marlin on a boat that was captained by his brother, Larry.
The Brothers Pride won for the largest blue marlin, the largest wahoo
overall, and the largest daily wahoo for a total of $40,473.
The event is the first event in the North Carolina Governor’s
Cup. During the four fishing days, 16 blue marlin were released and
three were boated.
Rameseas won the billfish and the additional billfish division with
three blue marlin released for a total of almost $30,000 in prize money.
At the banquet on Saturday night, Judy Bonney was recognized for her
many years of service organizing the tournament. She got a
standing ovation from the crowd.
All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Hatteras Village Civic Association’s charitable causes.
